Description

Tektites, (meaning “molten”) also known as strewn-field meteorites,
are natural glass rocks believed to be of extra-terrestrial origin.
Early theories purport that Tektites were either volcanic ejecta from
lunar meteorites or terrestrial impactite glass from meteorites, flung
into space and back. Recently however, The Royal Astronomical
Society of Canada suggested that they are the remains of an ancient
ring system that orbited the Earth (like Saturn’s rings) and then fell
as the orbit decayed. Among the driest of rocks, their aerodynamic
shape and bubbly surface speak of their fiery passage through Earth’s
atmosphere at speeds of up to 25 km/sec. Millions of years old,
Tektites were held as talismans for protection by Ancient cultures.
