Smoky Quartz is a variety of quartz (silicon dioxide) imbued with free silicon. Historically, Smoky Quartz has been used by tribal cultures in ceremonies to provide protection from negative forces. Smoky Quartz is still considered to be a stone of protection that provides a safe-guarding barrier around the user. The dark colour of this stone associates it with the base chakra making it helpful in freeing blocked physical energy and alleviating fears and their foundation.
