Meanings
Ruby has a very long history as a precious stone. The first written
reference to ruby deposits (though likely found much earlier) came
from the 6th century C.E. and mention Burma (still a main source).
Rubies were worn by Burmese soldiers to protect them in battle.
Ruby was one of the stones used in the breastplate of the ancient
high priest and during the Middle Ages was regarded as the “Lord
of Gems” and “The most precious of the twelve stones God
created.” It is thought to bring courage and success in controversy,
encourage gentleness and discourage violence. Legend says that
when one retains a bit of ruby, wealth will never depart and it will
protect against unhappiness, bad dreams and lightning.
