Description

Tanzanite (a rare form of Zoisite), is named for Tanzania, where is
was first found in 1967 in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Tanzanite
is remarkable for its trichroism, appearing alternately blue, violet and
burgundy depending on orientation and lighting. Ancient Celtic chiefs
used Tanzanite to help define the next tribal leaders. One of the
most famous large, faceted Tanzanites (242 carats – largest being 738
carats) is the “Queen of Kilimanjaro,” set in a tiara and accented with
803 garnets and 913 diamonds. It is on display in the ROM in Toronto,
Ontario. Sometimes called the “workaholic’s stone”, Tanzanite is said
to help one slow down and take it easy. It is thought to enhance
composure, poise and harmony, mellowing out personality extremes.
