Description

Found: Canada

Fairy Stones are enchanting natural formations found at the origin of the
Harricana River which flows into James Bay through the wilderness of far
northern Ontario. The local Algonquin speaking First Nations named the
river Harricana, meaning “River of Biscuits” as the stones found on its
beach resembled biscuits. Fairy Stones are formed by concentric layers of
clay and silt bound together by calcuim carbonate. The irregular patterns
are etched by traces of organic material and worm activity. Fairy Stones are
thought to bring health and prosperity as well as protection against evil
spirits. Aboriginals carried Fairy Stones to bring good luck during hunting
expeditions. They were also given as tokens of romantic love. Uniquely
Canadian, Fairy Stones make a special and memorable gift.
