Gemstone Meanings:
Amethyst
Amethyst, a semi-precious variety of quartz, has had a long
and interesting history over the course of civilization. The
ancient Romans valued it as a stone which protected one
against drunkenness. The name comes from the Greek word
“amethystos”, which means “remedy against drunkenness.”
At one time it was rare and worth more than gold. Amethyst
has a spiritually uplifting effect, it is good for meditation,
creativity, and for calming the nerves. It also helps ease
addictions, and a piece of amethyst under a pillow can help
promote a restful sleep.
Amethyst Geode
The geode is one of the most attractive crystalline formations in the
mineral world. Geodes form when mineral-rich water enters a rock
cavity and undergoes a sudden change in pressure or temperature,
causing crystals to form from the solution and line the cavity’s walls.
Geodes are said to be wonderful for family harmony and creativity.
According to Feng Shui, large geodes placed in the corners of a
home stimulate chi flow. It is also said that geodes represent the
Divine Feminine (the geode’s cavity symbolizes the womb). Geodes
are said to amplify the properties of ALL the crystals they contain.
Amethyst geodes are beautiful and wondrous crystal caves, and are
often used to cleanse and purify other crystals when placed inside.
