Description

Coprolites are the fossilized remains of dinosaur dung and are the most
rare of all dinosaur fossils. They belong to a group known as trace fossils
which includes dinosaur tracks, regurgitalites (fossilized vomit) and
cololites (coprolite trapped in the lower digestive tract). Coprolite does
not smell bad, as it has undergone a long fossilization process. Coprolites
record the diet, feeding behaviour and habitat of prehistoric animals.
Paleontologists can study the contents of Coprolite to determine if
dinosaurs were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores. Coprolite comes in
many shapes and sizes depending on the animal it came from. Its colour
depends on the type of soil and minerals in which it was buried. This
Coprolite is from the island of Madagascar.
