Description

Iolite (from Greek “ion” or violet) has been called “Vikings’ Compass” because of its use by Viking mariners to navigate their ships. Showing pleochroism, Iolite is blue on one side, seems clear as water from the other and appears yellow from the top. When Vikings, including Leif Eriksson were far from the coastline or in dense fog, they used Iolite lenses to determine the direction of light polarization enabling them to find the degree of the sun without looking directly at it. Essentially, Iolite was the world’s first pair of polarized sunglasses. Called a vision stone, Iolite is said to clear thought forms, open intuition and teach
self-responsibility. It is said to aid the release of addictions, and free one from expectation, discord and co-dependency in relationships.
